For Teachers and Students
Health Politics offers a variety of resources for teachers and students. Many teachers have found that that our programs offer convenient, user-friendly modules to supplement classroom discussions or projects, and students find the material very helpful for health care research assignments.
For Teachers:
Use the Health Politics Textbook
A key classroom resource available from Health Politics is Dr. Magee's textbook, "Health Politics: Power, Populism and Health." The book examines global megatrends that are rapidly reshaping our attitudes, beliefs and policies about health, health care policy, and health care research. Dr. Magee offers 76 essays examining some of our most pressing health care topics. The essays are drawn from material previously published at HealthPolitics.org and organized by subject matter for ease of use. A CD with online links is included with each book.

Five Questions
Each Health Politics program is accompanied by five questions that are answered in the video/transcript. (Click here for an example.) Access to these questions is provided in the lower left corner of the main photo associated with each program. Click on "5 Questions Answered by This Week's Program" to see the questions. Mouse-click on any of the questions to be taken to their answer within the program's transcript.
Discussion Guide
Programs produced after May 2006 include a Discussion Guide that offers exercises and suggestions for classroom discussions related to the weekly topic. (Click here for an example.) Discussion Guides can be accessed once you click on "Watch Video" for any of the last 45 programs.
Slides
Each video lesson is accompanied by detailed Power Point slides. The presentation can be stopped at any point for questions and discussion and can easily be resumed. The slides are generic - meaning that you can download them and use them for lectures or as handouts, independent of the video presentation.
Footnoted Transcripts
A full text version of Dr. Magee's video commentaries are available, including detailed footnotes to scholarly journals, health care research, news reports and other sources.
Access Excellence: Valuable Health care Research Resource for High School Teachers
In an effort to better serve high school science instructors in the classroom about current health care research projects and policies, Health Politics is involved in a content-sharing service with the National Health Museum's Access Excellence program. Launched in 1993, Access Excellence provides health, biology and life science teachers access to their colleagues, scientists, and critical sources of new health care research and scientific information via the World Wide Web. Content from the program enriches the classroom experience of many thousands of students each year
Selected health care research and material from Health Politics, including videos, transcripts and links to online resources, is available as a part of the “Health, Science and Society” forum at the Access Excellence Web site.
This valuable resource provides a computer network forum on which high school teachers can share their innovative teaching ideas and activities, accessing information, expert assistance, and the advice and experience of other teachers to create new ideas and best practices.
To learn more, visit Health, Science and Society, Access Excellence or the National Health Museum.

From a Teacher:
"I use [Health Politics] all the time in teaching my classes in health policy. The health care research and issues are current and the length of the programs leaves plenty of time for us to discuss and delve deeper into the subject."
From a Student:
"I am a third-year senior at Michigan State University, and will be applying to medical school this June. I recently subscribed to Healthpolitics.org also after a fellow student suggested it on the basis it was great background to take into a medical school interview. I can already tell that when the interview process comes around I will have plenty to say."
